A newborn baby carrier

Use a carrier that is rated for this baby’s weight, with the newborn insert if the maker requires it. Follow their rules. No 20-SKU ranking.

We are not pediatricians. This is not medical advice. Your pediatrician knows this baby.

A carrier is a tool for weeks when the stroller is extra. It is not a sleep space. Check this baby’s weight and length, use the newborn insert if the manufacturer requires it, and keep the airway visible and chin off the chest.

The rules that matter

  • Follow that maker’s newborn section. We will not write a 20-SKU ranking.
  • Hip-healthy carry: knees higher than bottom, thighs supported, as the brand shows.
  • You stay awake. A sleeping baby in a carrier is a walking contact nap, not a bassinet.
  • Soft-structured or a wrap both work if they actually fit a newborn. Category browse: Ergobaby. FTC: if you buy through a link we may earn a commission. That does not change the price you pay. We do not publish commission rates.

What we will not do

  • Rank “safest carrier”
  • Tell you a brand prevents SIDS
  • Ignore a recall. Check CPSC.

When to call

A baby who is working to breathe in the carrier comes out. Then you call if it does not resolve. Fever and feeding questions are not carrier questions.
