Stroller vs carrier in the first 90 days

Weeks 0–6 are mostly a carrier plus the car. A full travel system can wait until you know how you move.

We are not pediatricians. This is not medical advice. Your pediatrician knows this baby.

Weeks 0–6 are mostly a newborn-legal carrier and the car seat. A full travel system is a wait-list item until you know how you actually leave the house.

Carrier first

Hands-free holding. Check newborn weight, insert, and airway. Follow the maker. Category browse: Ergobaby. If you buy through a link we may earn a commission. That does not change the price you pay. We do not publish commission rates.

A carrier is not a crib. If they fall asleep, you stay awake and upright, then move them to the flat surface when you can.

Stroller later

A frame that takes the infant seat can wait if you have a car and a carrier. Jogging strollers and “full systems” wait longer. When you do buy, the baby still rides as the stroller manual says — often reclined, harnessed, not as a nap in the living room.

What we will not do

  • A 20-model stroller matrix
  • Tell you a $1,200 system is safer than walking
  • Rank “best travel system 2026”
